Born in Scotland in 1977, I have been making painting and prints since graduating from Dundee Art School in 2000. I have been working as an art teacher for the last 7 years and recently emigrated to Perth.
I spend a lot of time in the ocean and have always been fascinated by the surface and shapes that surround me there. As an artist I enjoy experimenting with the endless possibilities that painting can lend to expressing moments that I feel so fortunate to experience in the ocean. I work from both photographs and memory, and strive to create unpretentious yet beautiful artworks that offer a unique viewpoint of the colours, shapes and moods of the sea.
Recently I have returned to landscape painting. To the universal truth of trying to recreate the memory of beautiful places with colours and markmaking. Much of this new work has been influenced by my life and experiences in Scotland, although I look toward the future and to the challenges of painting warm sunshine and the coastal lifestyle here in Australia.
